Researchers at the University of Gaziantep have conducted a study comparing sequential therapy (esomeprazole [40 mg bid] + amoxicillin [1 g bid] during week 1 followed by esomeprazole [40 mg bid] + levofloxacin [500 mg qd] + metronidazole [500 mg tid] during week 2) with standard therapy (esomeprazole [40 mg bid] + amoxicillin [1 g bid] + clarithromycin [500 mg bid] for 2 weeks) in Helicobacter pylori-positive patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia (n=75/group). Helicobacter pylori eradication was assessed 6 weeks after treatment with urea breath tests. Of the patients in the sequential therapy group, 90% had complete eradication compared with 57% in the standard treatment group.
